Product Information

Log rocker saw from Scheppach – cut firewood safely and easily

Cut firewood safely and easily – besides cutting firewood, other rough wood sawing tasks can also be carried out quickly and in a comfortable working posture.

Thanks to the patented protective flap, particularly safe working is possible. The powerful 2,200 watt motor and the robust steel construction are also suitable for greater challenges.

Heating with wood – more popular than ever

Enjoying cosy winter evenings in front of a crackling fire – heating with wood is more popular than ever before. With this log rocker saw, firewood for the wood stove can be cut to length quickly and easily.

230 volts – an ordinary socket is enough

For operation, the saw requires only a standard 230 volt socket. This is the decisive difference from three-phase and petrol versions:

No three-phase connection required. Garages, carports, sheds and yards have 230 V – a CEE connection usually not.

No electrical installation. Anyone processing firewood only occasionally does not need a connection installed.

No exhaust fumes. Unlike a petrol saw, operation is also possible in well-ventilated covered areas.

Quieter than a combustion engine and without fuel, oil changes or winter starting problems.

Note: with a rated current of 9.7 A, the saw should be operated on its own adequately fused circuit. Choose extension cables as short as possible and adequately dimensioned – voltage drop causes power loss and thermal stress on the motor.

2,200 W power input, 1,500 W continuous – reading both figures correctly

This dual specification matters more than it looks:

2,200 W (S6) is the power input in intermittent operation – during the actual cut, when full power is briefly drawn.

1,500 W (S1) is the continuous power input – the output the motor can deliver indefinitely.

In practice this means: the operating mode of a log rocker saw is intermittent. You cut, reload, cut again – the motor cools between cuts. The specification is matched precisely to this.

Anyone sawing continuously without pause works against this concept. A brief moment for reloading is therefore not lost time but part of intended operation.

Induction motor – the low-maintenance design

An induction motor (asynchronous motor) has a decisive advantage over universal motors: no carbon brushes.

Carbon brushes are wear parts – they wear down, generate sparks and debris and must be replaced. An induction motor has none, running quieter, longer-lasting and practically maintenance-free.

In addition: higher torque under load and considerably longer service life – the reason stationary woodworking machines practically always use induction motors.

Insulation class F, IP 54, thermal protector – the technical safeguard

Three specifications that together describe the drive's robustness:

Insulation class F permits motor temperatures up to 155 °C. This is the reserve that prevents the motor reaching its thermal limit during demanding work.

Degree of protection IP 54 means protection against dust in harmful quantities and against splash water from all directions. On a machine working outdoors, under a canopy or with damp wood, this is the right specification – saw dust is ubiquitous.

Thermal protector – the motor protection switch cuts out on overheating before damage occurs. If it trips, this indicates excessive use or inadequate cooling, not a defect.

Mechanical motor brake – the underestimated safety feature

The mechanical motor brake brings the saw blade to a standstill quickly after switch-off.

Why this is so important: a 405 mm blade has considerable flywheel mass and, without a brake, coasts for a surprisingly long time – a period during which it remains dangerous but is no longer perceived as running.

Run-down time is a standardised safety criterion. The mechanical brake shortens it considerably and thus reduces precisely the window in which most saw accidents occur.

Patented protective flap with mechanical rocker interlock

This is the core safety feature, and it is implemented more consistently than on many competing products.

The patented protective flap reliably protects the user in accordance with the latest safety standard against wood splinters and against reaching into the saw blade.

The mechanism in detail:

With the flap open, the feed rocker is mechanically interlocked. As long as the flap is open, the rocker cannot be moved – cutting is therefore impossible.

The cutting stroke can only be carried out with the protective flap fully closed. There is no intermediate state in which cutting occurs with the flap half open.

Opening the flap is only possible in the rest position. During the cut, the flap cannot be opened.

This mechanical forced sequence is the crucial point: it works not through electronics or sensors that can fail or be bypassed, but through mechanical interlocking.

Safety that does not slow you down

The second essential aspect: the protective flap enables quick and ergonomic handling.

This is the difference between good and poor guarding. A protective device that disrupts the workflow gets removed or bypassed – and that is the most common cause of serious accidents on log rocker saws.

Here the flap is integrated into the natural sequence of movement: open, insert wood, close, cut. No additional operation, no reason to tamper.

Enclosed and secured cutting area

In addition, the cutting area is of enclosed design. This provides further protection against ejected wood splinters – a real factor with firewood containing bark, knots and cracks.

Robust, torsionally rigid steel construction

The robust and torsionally rigid steel construction ensures a particularly stable stand at all times.

On a log rocker saw this is a safety prerequisite: a yielding frame means rocker and saw blade no longer align exactly. The blade runs askew in the cut, jams and tends to kick back.

A rigid frame maintains the geometry under load – and is simultaneously the prerequisite for smooth running over years.

405 mm carbide saw blade with 32 teeth

The extra-large 405 mm HW saw blade is fitted with carbide – the decisive difference from tool steel blades:

Considerably longer service life. Carbide edges last many times longer – decisive with firewood containing bark, sand and occasional foreign objects.

Stays sharp longer. A blunt blade does not cut, it rubs: more force required, more heat, higher jamming risk.

Resharpenable. Carbide blades can be professionally resharpened several times.

32 teeth is a sensible configuration for firewood cutting: coarse enough for brisk feed and good chip removal, fine enough for a clean cut. Finer-toothed blades clog in damp wood.

Blade data for replacement purchase

Three figures are decisive for later procurement:

  • Bore diameter 30 mm – the standard for blades of this size
  • Blade width 2.2 mm / tooth width 3.2 mm – the tooth width determines the kerf width
  • Max. blade speed 3,500 rpm – the blade's permissible speed

Important: the permissible blade speed (3,500 rpm) is well above the motor speed (2,800 rpm). This is the necessary safety margin. When purchasing a replacement, the permissible speed of the new blade must be at least equal to the motor speed.

Cutting diameter up to 135 mm, cutting length 300 to 1,000 mm

The extra-large saw blade enables effortless cutting of wood to the stated dimensions.

135 mm diameter covers the greater part of typical firewood – thicker trunks are generally split anyway before being cut to length.

The cutting length range of 300 to 1,000 mm is the real practical value:

  • 1,000 mm maximum length – metre-length wood, the common delivery form, can be loaded directly
  • 300 mm minimum length – the safety limit. Shorter pieces can no longer be held securely and must not be cut

Length stop for setting the cutting length

The scope of delivery includes a length stop with which the cutting length can be set optimally.

The practical value: stove wood must be cut to uniform length – otherwise it does not fit the stove or stacks poorly. Without a stop, you either measure every piece or estimate.

With the stop: set once, then cut through. The result is uniform logs without re-measuring – and a stack that holds.

Comfortable working posture

Besides safety, Scheppach expressly cites the comfortable working posture. On a task lasting hours this is no minor aspect: the machine height of around 1,045 mm allows upright standing without bending.

40 kg – the compromise between stability and mobility

Forty kilograms net is heavy enough for a secure stand yet light enough to move the saw. It can be repositioned by two people and lifted into a vehicle – a clear difference from the petrol-driven models in the range at over 120 kg.

Dimensions 1,000 × 735 × 1,045 mm

Compact enough for storage in a garage or shed and for transport in an estate car or on a trailer.

Take noise protection seriously

The sound power level of 115 dB(A) and the sound pressure level of 101 dB(A) are high figures – as with any circular saw of this size.

For context: hearing protection is mandatory from 85 dB(A). 101 dB(A) is well above that. Hearing protection on this machine is not optional but obligatory – hearing damage is irreversible.

Assembly required

The saw is supplied in assemblies; assembly tool and accessory bag with screws are included. Assembly must be carried out according to the instructions before first use; particular attention must be paid to the secure seating of all connections.

Points to observe

Personal protective equipment: hearing protection (mandatory), safety glasses, safety footwear and close-fitting clothing. No gauntlet gloves, no loose garments, tie back long hair.

Never reach into the cutting area – not even with a coasting blade.

Observe the minimum length of 300 mm. Do not cut shorter pieces.

Check wood for foreign objects. Nails, wire and stones destroy carbide teeth and can be ejected.

Use only faultless saw blades. Cracked, bent blades or those with missing teeth must be replaced immediately. The permissible blade speed must be at least equal to the motor speed.

Stability. Level, load-bearing ground; adequate space for loading and unloading the wood.

Electrical connection. Own adequately fused circuit; extension cables short and adequately dimensioned.

As power-driven work equipment, log rocker saws are subject to requirements regarding protective devices and recurring inspection under the applicable national regulations.

Typical Applications

Firewood preparation for fireplace and wood stove, cutting metre-length wood, rough wood sawing tasks, house and property maintenance, smaller-scale garden and landscape work, workshop and hobby use, holiday and weekend homes, smallholdings and part-time farming, garden sheds and allotments, clubhouses and hunting lodges, kindling and small wood production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a three-phase connection?
No. A standard 230 volt socket is sufficient. With a rated current of 9.7 A, an own adequately fused circuit is advisable.

What do 2,200 W and 1,500 W mean?
2,200 W is the power input in intermittent operation – during the actual cut. 1,500 W is the continuous power input the motor can deliver indefinitely. Log rocker saws work intermittently: cut, reload, cut – the motor cools between cuts.

What diameter can I cut?
Up to 135 mm. Thicker trunks are generally split anyway before being cut to length.

What wood lengths are possible?
From 300 to 1,000 mm. The maximum corresponds to metre-length wood, the common delivery form. The 300 mm minimum is a safety limit – shorter pieces can no longer be held securely.

What is the length stop for?
It sets the cutting length: set once, then cut through. This yields uniform stove wood without re-measuring – important so it fits the stove and the stack holds.

What does the patented protective flap do?
It protects in accordance with the latest safety standard against wood splinters and against reaching into the blade. With the flap open, the feed rocker is mechanically interlocked; the cutting stroke is only possible with the flap fully closed, and opening only in the rest position.

Why is the mechanical interlock so important?
Because it works without electronics or sensors that could fail or be bypassed. And because the flap is integrated into the natural sequence of movement – a disruptive guard gets removed, and that is the most common cause of accidents.

What is the mechanical motor brake for?
It brings the saw blade to a standstill quickly after switch-off. A 405 mm blade coasts surprisingly long without a brake – and most accidents happen in precisely that window.

What is an induction motor?
An asynchronous motor without carbon brushes. It therefore runs quieter, lasts longer and is practically maintenance-free, delivering higher torque under load than a universal motor.

What does IP 54 mean?
Protection against dust in harmful quantities and against splash water from all directions – the right specification for a machine working outdoors or under a canopy.

What happens in case of overheating?
The thermal protector cuts out before damage occurs. If it trips, this indicates excessive use or inadequate cooling, not a defect.

What saw blade is fitted?
A carbide circular saw blade (HW) with 405 mm diameter, 32 teeth, 30 mm bore, 2.2 mm blade width and 3.2 mm tooth width. The permissible speed is 3,500 rpm.

What must I watch when buying a replacement blade?
Diameter 405 mm, bore 30 mm and a permissible speed of at least 2,800 rpm – the motor speed. The original blade has the necessary safety margin at 3,500 rpm.

How loud is the machine?
Sound power level 115 dB(A), sound pressure level 101 dB(A). Hearing protection is mandatory from 85 dB(A) – on this machine it is obligatory.

Do I have to assemble the saw?
Yes, it is supplied in assemblies. Assembly tool and accessory bag with screws are included; assembly is carried out according to the instructions.

How heavy is the machine?
40 kg net, 45.2 kg gross – heavy enough for a secure stand, light enough to be repositioned by two people.
